South Africa’s stand-in captain Aiden Markram has won the toss and elected to bowl first against India in the first ODI.

“We will bowl first. The dew will impact the game, and batting will get easier in the second innings. We can’t take things for granted, but the dressing room is happy and confident. There is still time left in the ODI World Cup, but we are preparing for it. Temba Bavuma has been rested,” Aiden Markram said.

Indian interim skipper KL Rahul would have bowled first as well.

“We would have bowled too. There is a lot of dew around, so we wanted to bowl first. Preparations have been good, and a lot of players are coming back. We haven’t played ODI cricket for some time. We need to use the opportunity which we get in ODIs, and that has been the conversation in the dressing room. Yashasvi Jaiswal will open with Rohit,” KL Rahul said.
