NEW DELHI: Star India batsman Virat Kohli emphasized his commitment to giving his all whenever he represents India. “If I make myself available, then I’ve to give my 100%. I’ve never played any series even at 95% capacity,” he said in a video posted by BCCI ahead of the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi on Sunday, underlining the intensity and focus he brings to the game.
The former India captain also spoke about his love for cricket, adding, “I’m still enjoying my cricket, I’m excited to play any kind of cricket, that’s the place I’m in right now,” highlighting his passion and enthusiasm for the sport despite the years at the top.
Speaking on the value of experience, Kohli added, “Experience is an accumulation of being present and aware in situations you have been a part of, and having all those memories stored up so that you can utilize those experiences when those situations come again.”
He said, “The will to work and commitment to put in work is as high as it has ever been.”
Selectors, board meet on Rohit & Kohli’s future
However, uncertainty continues to linger around Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s future in international cricket, as both legends now feature only in ODIs following their retirements from Tests and T20Is.
According to TOI, the meeting is likely to take place in Ahmedabad after the third ODI in Visakhapatnam. Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to be part of the discussions.
A BCCI source said, “It is very important that players of Rohit and Kohli’s stature are given clarity about what is expected of them. They can’t just be playing with uncertainty.”
The board is reportedly planning a meeting with selectors and team management after the South Africa ODI series.
