In a thrilling WBBL 2025 encounter at Bellerive Oval, Hobart Hurricanes Women successfully chased down 187 set by Perth Scorchers Women, securing a seven-wicket victory with five balls remaining. Chasing a challenging target, Hurricanes’ top-order led the charge, with Nat Sciver-Brunt playing a match-winning knock of 81 off 48 balls. Her partnership with Danni Wyatt-Hodgewho contributed 55 off 38 balls, guided the Hurricanes to the top of the WBBL table, continuing their excellent form this season.
The Scorchers Women posted a competitive total of 186/5 in their 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant knock from Beth Mooneywho made 75 from 55 balls. The Scorchers had a solid foundation, but the loss of wickets at crucial intervals, including Sophie Devine and Freya Kemphindered their progress. Maddy Darke and Paige Scholfield’s contributions added some late momentum, but it was not enough to defend the total. Molly Strange and Lauren Smith were key contributors with the ball for the Hurricanes, but the total set by the Scorchers was not enough to prevent a powerful Hurricanes chase.
The Hurricanes Women responded with a flawless chase, led by Sciver-Brunt’s destructive 81. Her knock included 12 boundaries and one six, showcasing her control and aggression throughout the innings. Danni Wyatt-Hodge supported her well with a blistering 55, including seven fours.
Their second-wicket stand of 136 runs turned the game in the Hurricanes’ favor, despite the early loss of Lizelle Leewho was dismissed for 14. With just a few overs remaining, Nicola Carey and Elyse Villani’s contributions guided the team to victory, with the Hurricanes finishing at 189/3 in 19.1 overs, chasing down the target with ease. The Hurricanes’ chase was a testament to their depth and consistency, making them a formidable team in the WBBL this season.
