Delhi: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has once again returned to the Indian ODI team after almost two years. According to the team’s stand-in captain KL Rahul, this time he has a good chance of getting a chance in the playing eleven. Rahul said that Gaikwad is an excellent player and has performed well even in limited opportunities. Therefore, efforts will be made to give them opportunities in this series.
Rahul expressed confidence in Ruturaj
Rahul said in the press conference, “Ruturaj Gaikwad is a brilliant player. Our top 5-6 batsmen are quite set, but they have done well on every occasion. Hope to give them a chance in this series.”
Gaikwad got a place in the team after his strong batting in Ranji Trophy 2025-26 and his good performance in the three unofficial ODI matches played recently against South Africa A in Rajkot.
During the press conference, Rahul was also asked a question about Rishabh Pant’s return to the playing eleven. Rahul did not give a clear answer, but indicated that if Pant plays, he will also do wicketkeeping. Rahul said, “Rishabh can play only as a batsman, but if he is playing then he will wear the same gloves. Now this decision will be taken tomorrow.”
In the ICC Champions Trophy and ODI series against Australia, Rahul was batting at number 6 because of Axar Patel. Although Akshar is not a part of the team in this series, still Rahul told that he will play at number 6 only. Rahul said, “I will bat at number 6 only. I am playing at this position.”
