KL Rahul is the Indian captain in the ODI series
After the end of the Test series, now it is the turn of India-South Africa ODI series. The format has changed and hence some players have also changed. Especially two big names have returned – Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Apart from these, some other players have also become a part of this team. But there is a big change in the captaincy. Due to injury of Shubman Gill, KL Rahul is captaining this series and before the start of the series, he has made some important announcements related to the playing-11.
The ODI series is starting from Sunday 30th November in Ranchi. A day before the match, on Saturday 29 November, Rahul appeared before the media for the first time as captain and answered some special questions. During this, Rahul also announced at which number he will bat in the playing-11. The Indian captain made it clear that he will bat only in the middle order in this entire series. He said, “I will bat at number six.”
Apart from this, questions were also raised about Rishabh Pant and Rituraj Gaikwad. While Pant has returned to the team after the Champions Trophy, Gaikwad is making a comeback in this format after almost two years. But will either of them get a chance? On Pant's question, Rahul said that he can also play as a batsman but if he comes in the playing-11, he will play only as a wicketkeeper. Rahul said, "Everyone has seen what qualities Pant brings to the team. He has the ability to play only as a batsman but if he is in the playing-11, he will handle the gloves (wicketkeeping)."
At the same time, when the question was asked about giving a chance to Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul did not tell whether he will play Ranchi ODI or not but assured that the right-handed batsman will definitely get a chance in this series. Rahul said, "Rituraj Gaikwad is a tremendous player. He has performed well in whatever few opportunities he has got. He will be given a chance in this series."
