The Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has turned down the rumours over the overseas captaincy talks ahead of the WPL 2026 season.
Delhi Capitals significantly bolstered the squad during the WPL 2026 auction with key signings of Laura Wolvaardt, Chinelle Henry, Sneh Rana, Lizelle Lee and young Deeya Yadav.
They also bought back left-arm spinner N Shree Charani. Addressing the overseas captaincy rumours, DC’s co-owner Parth Jindal said, “No, no, not at all. I think we are very clear that we would like to have an Indian as the captain.”
“So, depending on who else we land, we already have our minds made up. But let’s see what happens, but I mean, Laura will add a lot of leadership into the dressing room. But we are clear that we want to go with an Indian captain,” added Jindal.
After Meg Lanning has joined UP Warriorz, Laura Wolvaardt could have been considered as captain. But with Parth Jindal’s statement, they will be looking for Indian batter Jemimah Rodrigues to take over the role.
Laura Wolvaardt will be filling in the opener slot along with Shafali Verma for the upcoming WPL 2026 season.
The Delhi Capitals finished as runners-up in the WPL 2025 season, losing the final to the Mumbai Indians by eight runs. This marks the third consecutive season where the side has reached the final but failed to win.
Delhi Capitals retained maximum players – Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Annabel Sutherland, Marizanne Kapp and Nikki Prasad.
During the auction, the WPL chairman Jayesh George has confirmed that the tournament will be played in the January-February window due to the following Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in the February-March Window.
The first match is set to be played on January 9 while the finals will be played on February 05.
