Team India Coach: Gautam Gambhir is the most talked about name and face in Indian cricket at the moment. Gautam Gambhir has been the head coach of Team India for the last one year and during this period, the performance of the Indian team has been full of ups and downs. While India has won big limited overs titles like Champions Trophy and Asia Cup during this period, its performance in Test cricket has been less ups and downs and more ups and downs. Last year, Team India had to face a clean sweep at home against New Zealand and now South Africa. Since then there is a demand to remove Gambhir from the post of coach. But will BCCI do this? Or has it ever happened that an Indian coach left without completing his tenure?
Actually, such news often comes from Pakistan cricket, where coaches and captains are changed like the seasons change throughout the year. But indian cricket This generally does not happen because here there has always been stability from the team to the team management and even the functioning of the board. At present, it seems to be the same in the case of Gambhir as BCCI has said that it does not take decisions in haste and works according to the future plan. However, in the last 30 years, there have been three such coaches who had to leave their posts midway.
Madan Lal, former all-rounder of Team India and an important part of the 1983 World Cup winning team, had to leave his post midway. Madan Lal was made the coach of the Indian team in 1996. But Madan Lal had openly criticized the performance of some players of the team during the Sri Lanka tour in 1997. While giving an interview to a newspaper, he had targeted many players including Mohammad Azharuddin, Ajay Jadeja, Anil Kumble. Due to this, all these players became very angry with him and there was a rebellion against him in the dressing room. After this, in 1997, BCCI bowed to the wishes of the team and removed Madan Lal.
After Madan Lal came the 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev. India's greatest all-rounder Kapil Dev was made the coach of Team India in 1999 but the team's performance during this period was very poor. Then suddenly in 2000, allegations of match fixing started being leveled against him. These allegations were made by his old teammate Manoj Prabhakar, who claimed that Kapil had tried to pay him to lose a match in 1994. After this, due to fans and political pressure, Kapil resigned from his post in September 2000. However, later these allegations against Kapil were proved wrong.
Many years later, the same situation as Madan Lal happened with Team India's great leg spinner Anil Kumble. Kumble took over the post of head coach of Team India in 2016 and during this period Team India was continuously performing well. But just before the Champions Trophy 2017, news of tension between the coach and captain Virat Kohli started coming. Even legends like Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar tried for reconciliation but things did not work out. There were reports that most of the players of Team India, including the captain, were not happy with Kumble's strict and schoolmaster-like coaching style. Kumble resigned immediately after Team India's defeat in the Champions Trophy final.
