Delhi Capitals co-owner, Parth Jindal, hinted at the potential expansion of the Women’s Premier League on November 27. While attending the WPL mega auction, Jindal shared his belief that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to add at least one more franchise to the competition in the near future

When asked about the possibility of the tournament adopting a home-and-away format instead of being limited to one or two cities each season, Jindal hinted that the BCCI is expected to expand the league in the near future.

Jindal expressed that a home-and-away format would be more beneficial for the league’s growth compared to the current format. He added that this change would provide fans with the kind of engagement they are seeking.

“I believe we would all love to see the WPL played in a home-and-away format. While the current format works, it’s not the ideal solution. I’m confident the BCCI is working on it. The short window they have for the tournament is why it’s structured this way, but I hope we can secure a longer and more expansive window for the WPL in the future. Adding one or two new teams is imminent, which is why the current cycle is so compressed, with two WPL seasons happening over just 14 months,” he said.

Jindal was questioned about Wolvaardt becoming a new captain. He clarified that the Delhi Capitals have already decided on having an Indian player as captain.

“We did our best to secure Meg, but Laura Wolvaardt is a great addition. Our spin department looks solid with Charani and Sneh. We are certain that we want an Indian player to lead, and we’ve already made our decision,” Jindal concluded.
