India’s regular Test captain Shubman Gill has reacted to the team’s whitewash against South Africa with a post on social media. Gill missed the second Test due to a neck injury sustained in the series opener at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Chasing 549 runs at the Barsapara Stadium, India were dismissed for 140 as Simon Harmer took 6 wickets in the second innings. It was South Africa’s second Test series victory in India, and it was also India’s second clean sweep in 12 months, both coming under head coach Gautam Gambhir.

Amid growing anger, Gill acknowledged the defeat but spoke about sticking together.

“Calm seas don’t teach you how to steer; it’s the storm that forges steady hands. We’ll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward – rising stronger,” he wrote on X.

Gill suffered a neck spasm on Day 2 of the first Test and was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata. He didn’t bat in the contest and was also ruled out of the second game. Although Gill travelled to Guwahati with the squad, he failed to prove his fitness.

Gill was told to visit a doctor in Mumbai. “The tests were conducted to know the exact reason behind his injury. The doctors want to know whether it is a muscular injury or a nerve- niggle. The selectors will be hoping that he gets fit for the T20I series against South Africa,” a source told PTI.

Shubman Gill consulted Dr Abhay Nene, who is a spinal injury specialist, and the reports have been forwarded to the head of the selection panel, Ajit Agarkar.

“Gill was given an injection and needs rest before starting the rehab and training. There is a possibility of him not playing in the T20I series,” the source added.

Gull has already been ruled out of the ODI series against the Proteas starting November 30.
