Desk: India has got the right to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. India has received formal approval in the meeting held at the Commonwealth Sports General Assembly in Glasgow, Scotland. India last hosted the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010. This time the event will be held in Ahmedabad, where sports infrastructure has been developed at a rapid pace in the last decade. India was competing against Nigerian city Abuja in the 2030 Commonwealth bid, but Commonwealth Games decided to keep the African country under consideration for the 2034 edition.

India presented a sweeping vision for the 2030 Games, centered in the Gujarat city of Ahmedabad, which will build on the foundation laid by Glasgow 2026, allowing India to celebrate its centenary in style. About Rs 70,000 crore was spent on the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, which was several times more than the initial estimate of Rs 1,600 crore. Keeping the Commonwealth Games relevant and finding hosts has been challenging over the years. Players from 72 countries, mostly former British colonies, participate in the event.

Shortly after Ahmedabad was announced as the host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games, 20 Garba dancers and 30 Indian drummers burst into the General Assembly Hall and surprised delegates with a spectacular cultural performance that reflected the heritage and pride that athletes and fans can expect from a Games hosted in the Indian state of Gujarat. Garba is a dance that originated in Gujarat and the performance involves members of Glasgow's Indian community and people from other parts of the Commonwealth.
