South Africa defeated India by 408 runs in the second Test to clinch the series 2-0. Marco Jansen was named the Player of the Match for taking 7 wickets in the contest and scoring 93 runs in the first innings.
It was the first Test to be played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. With their series win, the Proteas have moved to the second spot while India dropped to the fifth in the WTC standings.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and elected to bat first in Guwahati. The visitors posted 489 runs in their first innings and dismissed India for 201. South Africa declared their second innings at 260/5 and restricted the home team to 140.
For South Africa, Senuran Muthusamy was the hero in the first essay. He amassed 109 and was well supported by Jansen, who posted 93 runs off 91 balls.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets. In India’s first innings reply, Yashasvi Jaiswal was the only batter to go past the fifty-run mark. Marco picked up 6 scalps.
Tristan Stubbs’ 94-run knock in the second innings took the visitors to a strong position. Although Ravindra Jadeja dismissed 4 batters, it didn’t impact the outcome of the match. He managed 54 runs in the second chance, but India were bundled out in 63.5 overs, with Player of the Series Simon Harmer sending back six batters.
Marco Jansen has been a top performer for South Africa across formats in international cricket. The 25-year-old has contributed with bat and ball when needed. He scored 93 runs off 91 balls, with the help of 7 sixes and 6 fours, and then took 6 wickets in the first innings. The left-arm seamer then added one more scalp to his bowling figures in the second innings.
