South Africa secured a stunning 408-run victory against India in the second test, claiming a 2-0 clean sweep and their first series win in India in 25 years on Wednesday.

World Test champions South Africa bowled out India for 140 runs in a mammoth chase of 549 in the second session on day five in Guwahati. This was India’s biggest defeat in test history as South Africa pummeled India in the South Africa tour of India 2025.

This is now only the third time that India has lost a series at home in consecutive years.

It is also the first time in over six decades that India has lost five in a span of seven tests at home. Meanwhile, South Africa secured second spot in the WTC 2025-27 points table.

South Africa made a solid start, scoring 489 runs in their first innings on the back of Senuran Muthusamy’s century and a solid knock of 93 runs from Marco Jansen.

Apart from them, knocks from Tristan Stubbs, Temba Bavuma, Kyle Verreynne, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton have helped the side to post a solid total against India.

Kuldeep Yadav picked four wickets while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each.

However, India failed to capitalise on the innings as they scored only 201 runs, with only Jaiswal and Washington Sundar being the only scorers for the side.

Marco Jansen picked 6 wickets while Simon Harmer picked three wickets to dismantle India’s lineup.

Despite giving follow-on, South Africa continued their second innings, scoring 260 runs before they declared the innings.

With a mammoth 549 run target, India started their second innings, where they went on to score only 140 runs in the second innings, with Ravindra Jadeja being the only scorer in the second innings.

Simon Harmer picked six wickets, dismantling India’s batting line-up, giving a comfortable win for South Africa.

Marco Jansen was named the Player of the Match. Speaking on the post-match presentation, Jansen said, “Winning any game is a nice feeling and winning in India is special. It’s a team performance. We spoke about sticking to our own things. If it works, it works.”

“Got to give credit to Shuks, he told me to go out and play my game. I was nervous in the first Test. Everyone is working hard, our prep as a team and in an individual capacity.

We see where we can get better, and on the field, we give our best,” he concluded.
