Under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, the South African team created history by breaking Australia’s 21-year-old record.
Delhi: In the ongoing two-Test series between India and South Africa, the visiting team has achieved something which no foreign team had done on Indian soil till now. Under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma, the South African team created history by breaking Australia’s 21-year-old record.
After winning the first Test, South Africa is now eyeing a clean sweep of the series by winning the second Test as well.
On the other hand, Team India has an almost impossible target in the last innings.South Africa took a huge lead of 548 runs against India in the second innings, which is the biggest second innings lead of any team in India. Earlier, this record was in the name of Australia, which had taken a lead of 542 runs over India in the Nagpur Test in 2004. Bavuma’s team left Australia behind with this new record.
The beginning of the match was very good for South Africa. The team scored a huge score of 489 runs in the first innings. In response, the Indian team completely faltered and collapsed for 201 runs. After this, South Africa scored 260 runs at the loss of five wickets in the second innings and declared the innings.
Now Team India has an almost impossible target of 549 runs to win.
It will be interesting to see whether the Indian team chases this challenging target or tries to take the match towards a draw.South Africa batted for a long time in the second innings as Tristan Stubbs was heading towards a century, but he was out after scoring 94 runs in 180 balls, after which captain Bavuma immediately declared the innings. Stubbs hit one six and nine fours in his innings.
Earlier, Tony De Jorji was out after scoring 49 runs and missed the half-century.
