Former India captain Rohit Sharma has been named the brand ambassador of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will be played in India and Sri Lanka. Jay Shah, the ICC Chairman, welcomed Rohit on board and hailed the two-time World Champion. He led India to their second T20 World Cup title last year in the West Indies and the United States of America.
The Men in Blue defeated South Africa in the final of the global tournament. Rohit announced his retirement from the shortest format of the game after the team’s unbeaten run in the competition.
“It’s my honour to announce that @ImRo45 is the tournament ambassador for the upcoming @T20WorldCup in India & Sri Lanka. There can be no better representative for the event than the winning captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup, and a player who has been in all nine editions so far,” Jay Shah wrote on X.
Rohit is currently active in the fifty-over format and the right-handed batter will return to action for the three-match ODI series against South Africa. He last played in the one-day international assignment against Australia and was adjudged the Player of the Series for scoring a hundred and fifty in three contests.a
Meanwhile, he was leading run-getter in T20Is before Babar Azam surpassed him on the list. Rohit has hit 5 hundreds and amassed over 4,000 runs in the slam-bang version of the game. Sharma bid adieu to Test cricket in May this year.
