Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad are leading Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League 2024. Gill has struggled, with the franchise failing to win matches consistently. On the other hand, Ruturaj has been impressive.
Former India player Harbhajan Singh compared Gaikwad with Rohit Sharma as a captain.
“When Rohit Sharma became Mumbai’s captain, he became a better batter and contributed to the team’s success. Ruturaj Gaikwad is proving to be like Rohit. He is not taking any pressure and is in magnificent touch with the bat since taking over the captaincy.
“He is getting help from MS Dhoni. His real test would be when Mahi retires from the IPL,” Harbhajan Singh said on Star Sports.
Gaikwad is the current Orange Cap holder, having gone ahead of Virat Kohli. He took the top spot in the game against Punjab Kings. After a slow start, the right-handed batter got back to form and hit a hundred and 98 in consecutive games.
Despite his unstoppable run with the willow, he was ignored for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, with the national selectors going with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill is the reserve opener.
