Kohli surprised everyone when he announced his retirement from Test cricket this year in May. The announcement came a few days after Rohit Sharma bid adieu to the format.

As India are on the verge of losing another Test at home, the flop batting show in the second Test against South Africa led to a big claim about Virat Kohli’s retirement from the longest format of the game. The statement came after India were dismissed for 201 in the first innings against the Proteas, before the visiting team extended their lead to 314 at stumps on Day 3 at the Barsapara Stadium.

Former cricketer Sreevats Goswami feels Virat should have retired from ODIs and continued playing Test cricket, insisting that red-ball cricket is missing his winning mentality.

“Ideally, Virat should have left playing ODIs & continued playing test cricket until he had nothing to give. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player but just the energy he brought, the love & passion playing for

“The winning mentality & that fire which was there under Virat Kohli feels missing in this team,” he had mentioned in the earlier post.

Kohli surprised everyone when he announced his retirement from Test cricket this year in May. The announcement came a few days after Rohit Sharma bid adieu to the format. The two star players had earlier retired from T20I cricket after the Men in Blue won the T20 World Cup and now remain active in the fifty-over format.

After scoring a fifty in the third and final ODI against Sydney, Kohli will be eager to perform in the upcoming three-match series against South Africa.

Meanwhile, Temba Bavuma’s team posted 489 runs, with Senuran Muthusamy scoring a hundred while Marco Jansen amassing 93 runs. The left-arm pacer then took 6 wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 201.

Despite taking a lead of 288 runs, South Africa didn’t enforce the follow-on and were 26/0 at the end of Day 3.

The visitors are now on the brink of their second Test series success in India, with the previous coming in 2000.
