When asked about the message he wanted to send to England’s supporters, McCullum said, “Keep the faith.”
England coach Brendon McCullum has spoken after his team’s crushing 8-wicket loss in the first Ashes Test, urging supporters to keep the faith. He mentioned that the team will stick to its aggressive approach despite the heavy defeat in Perth.
England were comprehensively outplayed in every aspect, as their aggressive Bazball style crumbled under pressure.
Batting collapses in both innings, along with a blistering 69-ball century from Travis Head, handed them a crushing defeat. This loss leaves them with a tough challenge ahead as they strive to reclaim the Ashes with four Tests remaining. When asked about the message he wanted to send to England’s supporters, McCullum said, “Keep the faith.”
“At times, we get beaten and it doesn’t look great, but that mentality helps us maintain belief in our abilities when we step out to play. There will be moments when things don’t go as planned, but we must trust in what we believe in, as it gives us the best chance.
Being one down in the series doesn’t alter our belief. We need to stay calm, stay united, and find our way back into the series, as we’ve done in the past.”He also pointed out that this isn’t the first time his team has faced a defeat. “We’ve been in this position before. We lost the first Test to South Africa in just two days and then came back to win the series 2-1,” he added, calling the Perth loss just a setback in a larger context.
“Sometimes we get beaten, and it can look ugly, but that mindset helps us keep faith in our abilities the next time we step onto the field.”
