Indian cricketer Smriti Mandhana and Palash Muchhal’s wedding has been postponed after the cricketer’s father, Shriniwas Mandhana, fell ill.

The wedding is supposed to take place on November 23, but has been postponed indefinitely.  Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, told her father showed symptoms of a heart attack after experiencing pain on the left side of his chest.

He was rushed to Sarvhit Hospital in Sangli due to symptoms of a heart attack. Dr Naman Shah, director of Sarvhit Hospital, said Smriti Mandhana’s father showed symptoms after experiencing pain on the left side of his chest.

He added that the collapse was likely caused by the physical and mental stress of the hectic wedding preparations. Dr Shah noted that he may require continuous ECG monitoring and, if needed, an angiography.

“Srinivas Manandana, Smriti Manandana’s father, experienced symptoms of a heart attack around 1 to 1:30 PM after feeling left-sided chest pain. He was immediately transferred to Sarvhit Hospital and Medical Research Centre in Sangli for further assessment,” said Dr Naman Shah.

“Despite his slightly raised cardiac enzymes, he requires ongoing observation. Our cardiologist, Dr Rohan Thanedar, has examined him as well. There are no new findings on the echocardiogram. However, he may need continuous ECG monitoring and, if necessary, angiography,” the director of cricket added.

“Currently, his blood pressure is slightly elevated, so he needs continuous monitoring…It could be due to physical or mental stress, perhaps because it is wedding season with a lot of hectic activity,” concluded Dr Naman Shah.

According to Smriti Mandhana’s manager, the cricketer made it clear that she did not wish to proceed with the wedding in the midst of a medical emergency involving her family.

“Today morning, when he was having breakfast, his health started deteriorating. We waited for a bit to see if he would recover, but his health started to worsen. We didn’t want to take any risk. We called an ambulance immediately, and he was rushed to the hospital,” said Tuhin Mishra.

“He is under observation now. We all know how close Smriti is to her father. So, Smriti has decided that the marriage will be postponed until her father recovers.”

“He is under observation. Doctors have advised keeping him in the hospital for now. They are conducting various tests. We are all in shock. We hope he recovers quickly. This is a big occasion for all of us,” he concluded.

Smriti Mandhana and Muchhal were set to tie the knot on Sunday in a private ceremony attended only by close friends and family.

The Indian cricketer announced her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal with a lively Instagram reel, dancing with her India teammates to the iconic “samjho Ho Hi Gaya” track from Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

A day later, Palash shared a proposal video from Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, where India lifted the Women’s World Cup.

Smriti Mandhana scored 434 runs in nine innings at an average of 54.25 and a strike rate of 99.08, registering a century and two fifties. Her crucial 45-run knock against the Proteas Women helped India’s title run in the ICC tournament.
