The specialist batter Kane Williamson has been named in the New Zealand squad for the upcoming three-match test series against West Indies, which is set to begin next month.

His selections come alongside experienced seamer Blair Tickner and pacer Zak Foulkes, who have been named in a 14-member squad.

Meanwhile, Kyle Jamieson rested for the first test. On the other hand, Daryl Mitchell who has recovered from the groin injury, he sustained during the recent ODI series against the West Indies.

Kane Williamson who recently announced his T20I retirement, has not featured in a test match since December last year. His inclusion will bolster the side with his presence.

Head coach Rob Walter said, “Kane’s ability on the field speaks for itself and it will be great to have his skills as well as his leadership back in the test group.” Walter added, “He’s had a bit of time off to get himself ready for red-ball cricket.”

With Jamie Overton unavailable due to his red-ball return, while Blair Tickner is in line for his fourth test cap after more than two years.

Jacob Duffy will be adding up extra boost in pacer department. Zak Foulkes earned his place after a standout test debut against Zimbabwe in August where he returned with figures of 9/75.

The fast bowling department is rounded out by Duffy and Matth Henry, and with injuries to Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears limiting further options.

“Both Jacob and Blair have been around a while and know what it takes to perform at the highest level,” added Rob Walter.

“Zak couldn’t have performed much better in his first Test against Zimbabwe. That, along with his recent form across the white-ball tours, has rightfully earned him selection,” added New Zealand head coach Rob Walter.

The first match of the test series will be played at Hagley Oval on December 02 in Christchurch, followed by matches in Wellington and Tauranga.
