Pune is attracting interest from the two franchises, and the outcome will depend on how fast RR finalises their move. RCB will have to solve their home-ground issues.

Rajasthan Royals’ disagreement with their state association could trigger one of IPL 2026’s most intriguing off-field rivalries, as they will compete with Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the same “adopted” home venue.

According to Cricbuzz, RR want to move to the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Gahunje, Pune, for the next season. RCB have also approached the MCA about hosting their matches after M Chinnaswamy Stadium was declared unfit following the June 4 stampede.

Rajasthan Royals’ potential move to Pune follows a major fallout with the Rajasthan Cricket Association, which escalated last season over denied match-fixing allegations. RR have already scouted Pune’s stadium, hotels, and airport, signalling serious intent. If approved, they are expected to play at least four home games in Pune, with the rest likely to be in Guwahati.

The MCA is eager to see the IPL return to the city. “Yes, they visited to check the stadium capacity, pitch conditions, and local hotels. Our president, Rohit Pawar, is eager to bring the IPL back to the city and is taking all necessary steps,” an MCA official told Cricbuzz. The venue last held matches in 2022.

RR are not alone as Royal Challengers Bengaluru have reportedly reached out to the MCA as well, planning alternatives if the Karnataka government does not ease restrictions on M Chinnaswamy Stadium before the IPL. “The interest from RCB is real, but there’s no certainty they will shift here. Any decision will depend on several factors,” the MCA official added.

The MCA faces a delicate situation. “It’s a case of valuing what we have over chasing uncertain opportunities,” the official admitted.
