NEW DELHI: Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal finally ended his drought against South Africa in Test cricket by scoring his first half-century during the first innings of the second Test in Guwahati on Monday.

This was Jaiswal’s maiden fifty against South Africa in his seventh innings, coming at a crucial moment as India battled to avoid another home Test series defeat. The left-handed batsman’s 13th Test fifty came off 85 balls, featuring six fours and a six.

Jaiswal, however, failed to continue to keep the momentum going as he was beaten but the turn off Simon Harmer and ended up getting an outside edge towards short third man where Marco Jansen took a sharp low catch.

Before this innings, Jaiswal endured a lean patch against South Africa, having scored just 62 runs in six Test innings at an average of 10.33. Interestingly, five of his six dismissals have come at the hands of left-arm pacers – three to Nandre Burger and two to Marco Jansen.
