After Rinku Singh was left out of India’s squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, his father Khanchandra Singh voiced disappointment over the selection committee’s decision.

BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup, slated to begin on June 1st in the West Indies and USA. The squad includes star players as well as Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shivam Dube, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Kuldeep Yadav.

Though Rinku Singh’s name was missing from the initial squad, the 26-year-old was included on the list of travelling reserves. He will be added to the main squad if any of the players get injured or are ruled out of the tournament.

Speaking to a news channel, Rinku Singh was heartbroken when he told his mother that he was not selected for the main squad in the T20 World Cup, according to his father. Singh’s father, Khanchandra, added that they had bought firecrackers in anticipation of Rinku being picked for the team.

“We had lots of hopes, we bought sweets, crackers and were ready to celebrate. However, Rinku called his mother and broke the news that he was not selected. He was heartbroken,” said Rinku’s father.

“We are still happy but he explained to his mother that there’s a difference in being picked in the main squad and reserves,” he added

Rinku Singh and Shivam Dube were direct competitors for a spot in the Indian national squad. However, Rinku had limited opportunities with KKR, facing only a few deliveries and scoring 123 runs, as Phil Salt and Sunil Narine did most of the scoring. In contrast, Shivam was in outstanding form for CSK, blasting 350 runs in his first 9 matches to make impossible for selectors to ignore him. Moreover, Shivam’s all-round abilities gave him the advantage over Rinku in selection.
