India's vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s much-awaited wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal was postponed on Sunday after her father, Srinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden cardiac episode. However, the family doctor has now confirmed that the cricketer's father remains under observation, and the wedding will not proceed until he recovers.

Smriti and Palash were set to tie the knot on November 23 at the Mandhana family farmhouse in Samdol, Sangli. The pre-wedding celebrations had been underway for the last few days, with teammates, friends, and close relatives already present.

The celebrations included Haldi and Mehendi ceremonies and a friendly cricket match organised by the bride and groom.

However, hours before the wedding ceremony, Smriti’s father complained of severe chest pain. The cricketer's father was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance, which was seen at the wedding venue. According to the family doctor, Dr. Naman Shah, the health scare began around 1:30 pm on Sunday.

"At around 1.30 pm, Mr Srinivas Mandhana got left-sided chest pain, we call it 'angina' in medical term. As the symptoms surfaced, his son called me, we sent ambulance, he was shifted to hospital.

We found out in ECG, other reports, that cardiac enzymes are elevated, hence we need to keep him in observation. BP is also elevated. The whole team is monitoring. If situation exacerbates, we will have to do angiography... Smriti is in contact with us, hopefully he will be stable by tomorrow," he said.

Decorations at venue currently being taken down

The doctor stated that although Mr. Mandhana is stable, the medical team is monitoring him closely and may consider further procedures if his condition worsens. Meanwhile, Smriti’s business manager, Tuhin Mishra, who was present during the preparations, shared how the situation took place at the venue.

"In the morning, when he was doing breakfast, Mr. Srinivas Mandhana health looked in bad shape. We waited a little while, but did not want to take a lot of risk. We called an ambulance and took him to the hospital.

He was under observation.  And Smriti is very close to her father, so she has decided that until his father gets back on track, the marriage will be postponed indefinitely," Tuhin Mishra told reporters on Sunday.

He confirmed that the family has postponed the wedding indefinitely, stating that no new date will be considered until Mr. Mandhana fully recovers. The sudden ambulance arrival at the farmhouse caused shock among guests, many of whom were cricketers who had travelled to Sangli to take part in the ceremony.

Decorations at the venue are currently being taken down, and all scheduled festivities have been called off.
