A brilliant four-wicket haul from Ash Gardner has guided the Sydney Sixers to an 11-run victory against Hobart Hurricanes in the 19th match of the WBBL 2025 on November 22 at Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
They went on to break the Hobart Hurricanes’ winning streak in the ongoing season during Saturday’s clash. With this win, the Sydney Sixers went on to clinch third position in the WBBL 2025 points table.
Choosing to bat first, Ellyse Perry and Sophia Dunkley opened the innings while Linsey Smith opened the bowling attack.
The opener duo made a solid stand, making 75 runs for the first wicket as Heather Graham bagged the wicket of Ellyse Perry for 28 runs.
After a cheap dismissal of Alyssa Healy for 2 runs by Brunt, Dunkley smashed a fifty before being dismissed by Heather Graham.
Despite a decent contribution from Ash Gardner and Maitlan Brown, the Sydney Sixers’ remaining middle order and lower order couldn’t stand up to Hobart’s bowling attack.
By the end of 20 overs, Sydney Sixers went on to score 147 runs in 20 20-over innings. Heather Graham picked four wickets while Linsey Smith and Nat Sciver-Brunt bagged two wickets each.
In the pursuit of chasing 148 runs, Lizelle Lee and Danni-Wyatt opened the innings. A decent contribution from the openers of 43 runs for the first wicket.
Ash Gardner got the first breakthrough, dismissing Lizelle Lee for 28 runs. After Brunt’s cheap dismissal for 2 runs, Danni-Wyatt lost her wicket to Mady Villiers for 17 runs.
Nicola Carey and Elyse Villani made some crucial contributions of 22 and 42* respectively, Heather Graham lost her wicket to Mady.
Ash Gardner wiped out three batters in the lower order, dismissing Hayley Silve-Holmes, Molly Strano and Lauren Smith. On this occasion, Hobart Hurricanes scored only 136 runs with only one wicket remaining in hand.
With Lauren Cheattle bagging the wicket of Linsey Smith, Hobart Hurricanes lost all 10 wickets for 136 runs got suffering an 11-run defeat.
Ash Gardner picked four wickets while Lauren Cheatle, Maitlan Brown and Mady Villiers went on to pick two wickets each to dismantle Hobart Hurricanes.
Sydney Sixers will play their next match against Brisbane Heat on November 28 at Adelaide Oval, Adelaide.
