Shubman Gill is out of this test.
IND vs SA 2nd Test: Shubman Gill has been ruled out of the second Test between India and South Africa to be held in Guwahati. Gill suffered neck pain during the Kolkata Test, due to which he had to leave the field after retiring hurt and was not able to bat in the second innings also. According to the report of Indian Express, in the absence of Gill, Rishabh Pant will take over the captaincy of the team. In the first Test also, in the absence of Shubman Gill, vice-captain Rishabh Pant took command of the team. 26-year-old Pant will be the captain in the second Test also, while due to Gill’s exclusion, Sai Sudarshan is likely to get a place in the playing 11.
BCCI said in its statement on Wednesday, “Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for check-up after the end of the day’s play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Gill is making a fast recovery and will accompany the team to Guwahati on November 19, 2025.”
India is trailing 0-1 in the 2-match Test series. Now, to avoid series defeat, Team India will have to win in Guwahati at any cost, because if the match is a draw then South Africa will win the series. It is noteworthy that Temba Bavuma has not lost any test yet as captain. He has captained in 11 matches, of which South Africa won 10 and 1 match ended in a draw. Now India will have to break this record of Bavuma to level the series.
