Key Points:

Now even by drawing the match in Guwahati, the Proteas can achieve the feat of winning the Test series on Indian soil after 25 years.

Delhi: The ongoing two-match Test series between India and South Africa has now reached a decisive stage. The second and last match will be played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati from Saturday, 22nd November. This match has brought a golden opportunity for the South African team to create history.

Proteas have a chance to end 25 years of drought

South Africa’s excellent performance continues under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma since winning the ICC World Test Championship in June. The victory in the Kolkata Test has further boosted the morale of the team. Now even by drawing the match in Guwahati, the Proteas can achieve the feat of winning the Test series on Indian soil after 25 years. South Africa last won a Test series in India in 2000 under the captaincy of Hansie Cronje. In the current series, the visiting team is ahead 1-0.

Bavuma’s restraint, Harmer’s brilliance

In the Kolkata Test, South African captain Temba Bavuma laid the foundation of the team’s victory by playing an important inning of 55 not out. The surprising thing was that this was the only half-century in the entire match. Spinner Simon Harmer took 8 wickets and destroyed the Indian batting order. Chasing the target of 124 runs, the Indian team was reduced to 93 runs.

Ngidi’s return will increase strength

South Africa will get a boost from the return of Lungi Ngidi before the Guwahati Test. However, fast bowler Kagiso Rabada is still in doubt about playing due to a rib injury. Nevertheless, despite the absence of Rabada in Kolkata, the team had given a strong performance, due to which the Proteas will go into the final match with confidence.
