Delhi: Despite being injured in the first Test against South Africa, Indian captain Shubman Gill has moved up one place to 11th in the latest ICC Test rankings. He now has 737 rating points.
Gill had a stiff neck on the second day of the Test played in Kolkata, after which he retired hurt after scoring four runs in the first innings and did not come to bat in the second innings. 26-year-old Gill was admitted to the hospital for treatment. Gill will go to Guwahati for the second and last Test starting from November 22, although there is still doubt over his playing.
South African captain Temba Bavuma has also made a big jump in the rankings and reached fifth place. He now has 794 rating points and this is the best performance of his Test career. Bavuma scored unbeaten 55 runs in 115 balls in the second innings on an unevenly bouncy pitch, which was the only half-century of the match. Giving India a target of 124 runs, South Africa reduced India to 93 on the third day and won the match by 30 runs. This was South Africa’s first Test win on Indian soil after 15 years.
England’s Joe Root remains on top with 908 points. From India, only Yashasvi Jaiswal has made it to the top-10. He is at seventh position with 749 points.
India’s star pacer Jasprit Bumrah remains at number-1 in the ranking of Test bowlers with 895 points. He took six wickets in the Kolkata Test, which included the brilliant ‘Panja’ in the first innings. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up two places to a career-best 13th position, while Ravindra Jadeja has jumped four places to 15th.
Marco Jansen of South Africa has moved up one place to 11th position. At the same time, Simon Harmer took a big jump of 20 places and reached number 24. Harmer was named player of the match after taking eight wickets in the Kolkata Test.
Yansen has also moved up one place in the ranking of Test all-rounders to fifth position with 254 points. India’s Ravindra Jadeja remains at the top in this list with 437 points.
