Despite playing for India under Rohit’s leadership and sharing the field with Kohli, Iyer made his choices without including the celebrated pair.
Venkatesh Iyer has named his all-time T20 XI, but in a surprising twist, the dynamic duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were both left out. During a recent interview with CricTracker, Iyer discussed his picks for the ideal T20 lineup, which notably excluded the two players regarded as white-ball legends. Despite playing for India under Rohit’s leadership and sharing the field with Kohli, Iyer made his choices without including the celebrated pair.
Venkatesh Iyer selected Virender Sehwag and the in-form Abhishek Sharma as the two openers. Abhishek, who currently holds the top spot in the ICC T20I rankings. This explosive opening pair offers a blend of experience and youth, which is perfect for setting the tone early in the innings.
Venkatesh Iyer has placed AB de Villiers at No. 3, followed by Suresh Raina at No. 4 in his T20 XI. Adding balance to the team, he has picked two all-rounders, Ben Stokes and Hardik Pandya, while MS Dhoni takes charge at No. 7 as the captain and wicketkeeper.
For the bowling unit, Iyer has chosen Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine, complemented by the pace brilliance of Jasprit Bumrah and Lasith Malinga. As an Impact Player, Australia’s Matthew Hayden will bring explosive intent when needed.
