India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and Eden Gardens pitch curator, Sujan Mukherjee, found themselves in the spotlight following the conclusion of the first Test in the series against South Africa. The Proteas, led by Temba Bavuma, claimed a 30-run victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. It was revealed that the surface was not watered for four consecutive days before the match.

Amid the ongoing chatter, a heart-warming moment emerged from Eden Gardens on Tuesday. During India’s training session for the second Test, Gambhir was seen embracing curator Sujan Mukherjee, a gesture that surprised many.

“This pitch wasn’t bad at all,” Mukherjee told Times Now Bangla.

“I understand that many are questioning this pitch, but the truth is, I know how to prepare a track for a Test. That’s exactly what I did, following the instructions given by the team management. I don’t let others’ opinions distract me. Not everyone has all the answers, so I focus on doing my job with commitment, and that’s how I want to continue moving forward.”

Gambhir had said that there were no demons in the surface and it wasn’t unplayable at all.

‘It wasn’t an unplayable wicket, and there were no demons,” Gambhir said during the post-match media interaction.
