West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell on Saturday was released by the Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the Indian Premier League 2026 auction, set to be held in Abu Dhabi on December 16.

Russell had been a longstanding member of the KKR squad, after joining the franchise in 2014. He has made 133 appearances and won the title with the side in 2014 and 2024.

The 37-year-old had been retained ahead of the mega auction before last season for Rs. 12 crore but the team decided to let him go after a poor run in IPL 2025.

Russell scored just 167 runs in 13 innings last season and claimed eight wickets while going at nearly 12 runs per over.
