Ganguly's big advice to Gambhir (Photo: PTI)
Sourav Ganguly vs Gautam Gambhir: There are a lot of questions after the fate that South Africa met Team India in the Kolkata Test. Like, is spin no longer the strength of Team India? Should Team India stop making spinning tracks now? When the Kolkata Test ended in just 3 days, in which India had to face defeat by 30 runs, a question mark was raised on the Eden pitch. But, Cricket Association of Bengal President Sourav Ganguly rejected that question mark outright. And also gave great advice to the Indian team.
Sourav Ganguly said that the pitch at Eden Gardens was exactly as demanded by the Indian team. What Ganguly said next deserves more attention. He said that the Indian team management should stop tampering with the pitches to dominate the home ground. According to the former Indian captain and CAB president, the pitch should be such that it plays well. Meaning on which there is something for both batsmen and bowlers. Meaning, 350 plus runs should be scored on that pitch and the bowlers should also be motivated to take wickets.
Sourav Ganguly said that hopefully Gautam Gambhir will be listening to me. He advised Gambhir to rely on his bowling strength instead of changing the pitch. There are Bumrah and Siraj in the team, who are bowling well. But, according to him, Shami should also be brought, who has the ability to win matches for India. It is clear from this statement of Sourav Ganguly that somewhere he is not happy with Team India's demand for a special pitch for the Test.
Gautam Gambhir, who came to the press conference after the Kolkata Test match, had given a statement regarding the pitch that he got the pitch as he wanted. The curators were very helpful. He believed that if you do not play well you will definitely lose. 124 was a score worth chasing. There was nothing wrong with this pitch.
However, no matter how much Gambhir defends his decision, the truth cannot be hidden by hiding it. Because, the same thing happened in the series against New Zealand in 2024. The Indian team had demanded a spin pitch and had to suffer the consequences of it.
