West Zone beat North Zone by 25 runs in the final at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima to lift the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy on Friday.
This was the North Zone’s first defeat in the edition after it had entered the summit clash after an unbeaten run in the group stage. West Zone had finished second on the points table, losing one match from five.
Humaira Kaazi’s 44-ball 58 helped West Zone post 169 for four at the end of its 20 overs. The opener was ably supported by her opening partner Kiran Navgire (34 off 18) and Tejal Hasabnis (43 off 35 balls).
In reply, North Zone suffered an early jolt, losing opener Deeya Yadav for 10. Shweta Sehrawat took on the mantle of runscoring in the PowerPlay but was dismissed caught and bowled by skipper Anuja Patil for 28 off 24 balls.
Ayushi Soni’s half-century and her brisk 43-run partnership in 28 balls with Nazma proved to be in vain as the North Zone fell short of the 170-run target to hand West Zone the title.
