Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have decided to exchange Mohammed Shami to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The change will be a cash-only transaction, as per the report from ESPNcricinfo. LSG will pay SRH INR 10 crore (approximately US$1.12 million), which is the same amount of money that SRH used to buy Shami at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
While the two teams have negotiated and agreed on the terms of the deal, Shami’s approval is still needed for the completion of the trade. The IPL has fixed 3 pm on November 15 as the deadline for clubs to submit their list of players they are going to release for the 2025 season.

SRH had invested heavily in Shami after his stellar powerplay exploits for Gujarat Titans between 2022 and 2024, during which he claimed 28 wickets in the first six overs — the most by any bowler in that period. However, after missing IPL 2024 due to injury, Shami’s returns in 2025 dipped significantly, managing only five powerplay wickets in nine innings with an economy of 10.3.
At LSG, Shami will reunite with former India bowling coach Bharat Arun, currently serving as the franchise’s head of talent development. Arun played a key role in shaping India’s formidable pace attack over the past decade, working closely with Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Siraj.
LSG are also dealing with fitness concerns surrounding their Indian quicks — Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav and Mohsin Khan — all of whom are undergoing rehab for various injuries and are currently unavailable for domestic cricket. Shami’s arrival could provide crucial depth and experience amid this uncertainty.
This trade marks the second major player movement in the IPL within a week, following the blockbuster swap between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals involving Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran and Sanju Samson. Like that deal, the Shami transfer will be completed only after the necessary paperwork is processed and approved by the IPL. Both SRH and LSG have been approached for comment.
