Delhi: In the fourth T20 match played in Dunedin, New Zealand defeated West Indies by eight wickets and won the five-match T20 series 3-1. The victory came thanks to a brilliant spell by fast bowler Jacob Duffy, who took four wickets, including three in one over. After this, the explosive batting of Tim Robinson and Devon Conway helped the team achieve the target of 141 runs with 26 balls remaining.

Duffy’s havoc, bad start for West Indies

Shai Hope started the innings aggressively for West Indies. However, Kyle Jamieson soon sent Alik Athanaz to the pavilion. After this, the game completely changed in the third over, when Duffy took three wickets in a row – first dismissing Shai Hope on a short ball, then bowling Akeem Auguste and then walking Sherfane Rutherford. West Indies’ score at that time was 4 wickets for 21 runs.

Powell and Chase try, but middle order collapses

Captain Rovman Powell and Roston Chase made a brief partnership to take the score to 47/4 by the end of the powerplay, but Michael Bracewell pushed West Indies further back by dismissing Powell. Roston Chase hit some good shots, especially against Ish Sodhi, while Jason Holder hit a big six. But both the batsmen were out within a span of a few balls, due to which West Indies’ score became 7 wickets for 92 runs.

Shepherd’s explosive batting led to a respectable score

Romario Shepherd batted slowly in the beginning (1 run off 7 balls), but later he changed gears and scored 35 runs in the next 15 balls. This included three fours and three sixes. Duffy dismissed him and took the fourth wicket. In the end, James Neesham dismissed Seals and ended West Indies’ innings at 140 runs.

Robinson-Conway’s stellar start

While chasing the target, Tim Robinson adopted an aggressive approach from the beginning. He filled the field with enthusiasm by continuously hitting fours and sixes off the balls of Jayden Seals. Devon Conway also played brilliant strokes and together they added 61 runs in the powerplay.

Conway completed the winning runs

Shepherd broke the partnership by dismissing Robinson, but Rachin Ravindra came and maintained the run pace. He hit some brilliant shots, although he got out early. After this, Mark Chapman appeared in his 100th T20 match and took the team closer to victory with two sixes. In the end, Devon Conway scored the winning run to give New Zealand an eight-wicket win and the hosts won the series 3-1.
