Deepti Sharma broke the record for the most wickets taken in a single edition of the Women’s World Cup during the 2025 final against South Africa in Navi Mumbai on Sunday.
The off-spinner picked up five wickets in the summit clash to take her tally for the tournament to 22, eclipsing the previous Indian record of 20, jointly held by Neetu David and Shubhangi Kulkarni.
Deepti dismissed centurion Laura Wolvaardt, trapped Chloe Tryon leg-before to reach the landmark, and later accounted for Annerie Dercksen, Nadine de Klerk, and Sinalo Jafta.
Deepti is also the second player to take a five-wicket haul in a Women’s World Cup final. England’s Anya Shrubsole was the first, who took 6 for 46 against India in the final of the 2017 edition.
