Key Points:

Williamson has been a part of the Durban team before and he performed brilliantly in the last SA20 season.

Delhi: New Zealand’s legendary batsman and former captain Kane Williamson has taken a big step after retiring from T20 International cricket. Williamson has recently rejoined Durban Super Giants (DSG), a team playing in the South African T20 League (SA20). The team is owned by Sanjiv Goenka, who is also the owner of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Williamson has been a part of the Durban team before and he performed brilliantly in the last SA20 season. He scored 233 runs in 8 matches at an average of 46.60 and was among the top batsmen of the team.

However, Durban’s last season was disappointing and the team finished bottom among the eight teams.

Shock to Taijul Islam

Williamson’s return has dealt a big blow to Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam.

He was added to the team by Durban Super Giants for 28 thousand US dollars (about Rs 25 lakh).

Taijul was about to become the first player from Bangladesh to play SA20 league, but due to the withdrawal of Williamson, he was dropped from the team. This time the management of Durban has laid more emphasis on strengthening its batting.

Will play a new role in IPL

Kane Williamson will not only play for Durban Super Giants, but will also be seen playing the role of Strategic Advisor for Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 season.
