Tejal Hasabnis’ composed half-century helped West Zone pip South Zone by four runs in a Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy round-robin fixture at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium in Sovima on Saturday.
The victory put West Zone atop the table with 10 points and only a better NRR to stay ahead of second-placed North Zone, which successfully defended a low total of 114 for seven against East Zone.
Jintimani Kalita shone with the ball, picking three wickets, but three-wicket hauls by Amandeep Kaur and Nazwa ensured East Zone was bundled out for 111 to clinch a nervy three-run win.
Hasabnis anchored the innings after a middle-order collapse, ensuring West Zone got to 142 for six in 20 overs. In reply, South Zone’s middle-order batters, Sabbhineni Meghana, skipper Niki Prasad and G. Kamalini, made valuable contributions before falling agonisingly short of a second win.
Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma’s five-for derailed North East Zone’s innings as it was bundled out for 83 against Central Zone. The Nuzhat Pafrween-led side secured a comfortable seven-wicket victory.
