The match of Pool C between India and Kuwait at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 brought forth a surprising outcome on Saturday, as the team of Dinesh Karthik was outplayed by a determined Kuwaiti team and lost by 27 runs. In the six-a-side format, Kuwait managed to achieve one of the tournament’s largest upsets by showing excellent grit, flair, and tactical intelligence throughout the match.
Kuwait, batting first, scored a massive 106/5 in 6 overs which is a total that seemed absolutely impossible before the last over. The team didn’t waste a single meter of the short boundaries and the quick track, mixing aggressive hitting with quick singles and doubles. For a large part of their innings, Kuwait looked like they would be able to score only about 90, however, Yasin Patel changed the whole scenario by hitting five consecutive sixes in the last over and thus taking his team over the 100-run mark.
India’s chasing was started with a big blow as Robin Uthappa got out for a golden duck. Also, the captain Dinesh Karthik and Stuart Binny were not able to get the momentum, hence India was in early trouble. Abhimanyu Mithun was the only one to stand up to the challenge, off which he managed to score a quick 26 runs from just 9 balls, however, the rest of the team failed under the pressure and were dismissed for 79 runs in 5.4 overs, hence the target was missed by 27 runs.
Yasin Patel ended his great all-round performance with three wickets for 23 runs in his two overs, tearing apart India’s middle order. Player of the Match award was given to him for his excellent contribution.
Adding to the excitement, the final over by Adnan Idrees saw Mithun smashing three back-to-back sixes and giving India very slight chances of a fight-back. Nevertheless, Idrees didn’t lose his cool and got Mithun out by a very well-timed catch from Meet Bhavsar, thus confirming Kuwait’s majestically held triumph.
