Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has confirmed that M.S. Dhoni will play the 2026 Indian Premier League, as per media reports, ending speculation about the former captain’s retirement.
Dhoni, who stepped down as CSK skipper ahead of the 2024 season after leading the franchise to five IPL titles, remains a central figure in the squad.
Reflecting on his role last year, Dhoni said he wanted to “enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I’m able to play,” explaining that he batted lower down the order to give players like Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja more opportunities before the T20 World Cup.
In 2025, he scored 196 runs in 13 innings at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17.
