Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) have announced their list of retained players ahead of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, which is scheduled to take place in January. This edition will mark the first-ever WPL conducted in the style of a mega auction.
The Mumbai-based franchise, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, remains the most successful team in the league’s short history, having won both the 2023 and 2025 editions by defeating Delhi Capitals Women (DC-W) in the finals.
As per the WPL retention rules, each team can retain up to three capped Indian players, two overseas players, and two uncapped Indian players. However, if a franchise opts to retain all five players, at least one must be an uncapped Indian. Additionally, the Right to Match (RTM) option will be introduced in WPL 2026, allowing franchises to buy back one of their former players during the auction.
The WPL governing council also outlined the salary slabs for retained players, INR 3.5 crore (Player 1), INR 2.5 crore (Player 2), INR 1.75 crore (Player 3), INR 1 crore (Player 4), and INR 50 lakh (Player 5). If a team retains five players, a total of INR 9.25 crore will be deducted from their INR 15 crore purse. For four retentions, the deduction stands at INR 8.75 crore; for three, INR 7.75 crore; for two, INR 6 crore; and for one, INR 3.5 crore.
The WPL 2026 mega auction will be held in Delhi on November 27. Each team will have a purse of INR 15 crore to build a squad of 16 to 18 players. After taking these rules into account, MI-W have retained five players, which means they will not have the RTM option available. The retained players include captain Harmanpreet Kaur, overseas stars Nat Sciver-Brunt and Hayley Matthews, all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, and young Indian talent G. Kamalini.
