NEW DELHI: All-rounder Shivam Dube said India’s total was good enough given the ground dimensions, and praised the bowlers for executing their plans perfectly in the fourth T20I against Australia.

India defended a modest score with a disciplined bowling effort to win by 48 runs, taking an unassailable 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

“167 on this ground is definitely a good score because of the quality of our bowlers, both spinners and pacers. I trust them, and the whole team backs our bowling unit,” Dube said at the post-match press conference. He added that with big side boundaries, the team had carefully planned to restrict Australia, giving them confidence to defend the total.

Dube also explained India’s bowling strategy, saying they focused on the sides with bigger boundaries, making it harder for batters to hit big shots. He credited chief coach Gautam Gambhir, bowling coach Morne Morkel, and T20 skipper Suryakumar Yadav for backing him as a bowler.

“When I got the chance, I knew I had to bowl well. Morne, Gauti bhai, and Surya helped prepare a good plan, and Morne’s tips improved my bowling,” he said.

Promoted to No.3, Dube also contributed with the bat, scoring 22 runs off 18 balls. He explained how he adjusted to the conditions, focusing on rotating strike against fast bowlers and attacking spinners, while handling the extra bounce carefully.

“It was an important phase, and I focused on the plan rather than taking unnecessary risks,” he added.

Dube’s calm approach with both bat and ball proved vital in India’s comprehensive win, underlining his growing influence in the T20 side.
