Suryakumar Yadav has played 37 matches in his One Day International career, scoring 773 runs at an average of 25. After a fantastic IPL 2025 season in which he scored over 600 runs, Surya has not been able to raise his level of game in international cricket. As of now, his best innings in ODIs this year is only 47, and he hasn’t scored a half-century in T20Is yet.

Suryakumar’s journey in ODIs has been challenging. Having played in the 2023 World Cup, he was unable to cement his spot in the format, largely struggling to balance the demands of ODIs and T20Is. Nevertheless, he remains eager to refine his game and adapt successfully to different formats.
In a recent podcast with Vimal Kumar, Suryakumar opened up about seeking guidance from one of the best in the world, AB de Villiers. “If I meet him soon, I would like to ask how he managed to balance his T20I and ODI game. I haven’t been able to do so. I thought ODIs should be played like T20Is. I want to ask him what he did to be successful in both formats,” he said.
Surya also emphasized the urgency, noting that he has just three to four crucial years left in his career. “AB, if you are listening to this, please get in touch with me quickly. There are three to four important years ahead, and I’m very keen on playing ODI cricket as well. Please help me! I couldn’t balance T20Is and ODIs,” he added.
