Ranji Trophy: The test series between India and South Africa is going to start from 14th November. Team India will also be announced for this series in a few days. But before this announcement, matches of Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season are also being played, in which some players are presenting their claims. One such player has again presented his claim by scoring his second consecutive century. This batsman is none other than Karun Nair who recently returned to Team India and is out again.
The experienced batsman from Karnataka scored a century against Kerala on the very first day.The third round of Ranji Trophy group stage matches began on Saturday, November 1, with last season's runner-up Kerala facing Karnataka in Mangalapuram. Karnataka came out to bat first in this match and lost the wickets of both its openers for just 13 runs. But this is where Karun Nair came to the crease and after that he just froze. It proved impossible for Kerala to dismiss him and the star batsman scored his second consecutive century.
Karun Nair, who was part of Team India on the recent England tour, continued his excellent form in domestic cricket and scored his 26th century in first class cricket. By the end of the first day's play, Karun had scored 142 runs and returned without getting out. In this innings, Karun had so far hit 14 fours and 2 sixes. During this, he made a partnership of 123 runs with Krishnan Srijit and then added 183 runs with Ravichandran Smaran. With its help, Karnataka had scored 319 runs after losing 3 wickets on the first day.
This was Karun's second consecutive century this season.
Karun, who scored a half-century in the first match of the season, played an unbeaten inning of 174 runs against Goa in the second match. Now, on the basis of this century, the 33-year-old batsman has put a kind of challenge in front of the selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar whether he should select him against South Africa or not.Nair had returned to Team India after 8 years but he could score only one half-century in the Test series against England. Only after this Nair was dropped from the Test series against West Indies.
After his last century in Ranji Trophy, Karun had expressed his disappointment at not getting another chance. Now it remains to be seen whether his luck changes after two centuries or not.
