Shubman Gill is the new star of Indian cricket, the new face of Team India. Especially after becoming the captain of the first Test and ODI team, he is the most important name. His place has also been made in the team of all three formats. In such a situation, his every performance will now be watched and examined with more keen eyes than before and currently his performance in the ODI series on Australia tour is under question. In this series, Team India captain Gill could not do wonders with his bat in even a single match, due to which his critics are targeting him.

But the reason for this is not only the ODI series but also their disappointing performance in the last two consecutive months in the shorter formats.

Shubman Gill's captaincy started with the three-match ODI series on the Australia tour. Just a few months before this, Gill was given the command of the Test team and he made a great start on the England tour. There he played an important role in getting the test series drawn by scoring the maximum runs. Similar wonders were expected from Gill during the Australia tour too, but neither did his captaincy start with good results nor could he do anything special with his bat in this series.

Gill's bat silent in ODI series

In the last match of the ODI series played in Sydney, the Indian team won under the captaincy of Gill. This was Gill's first win as captain in the ODI format. Coincidentally, in the same match, he was looking in good form while batting but then he could not play a big innings and was out after scoring only 24 runs. In this way, his scores in 3 matches remained only 24, 9 and 10. That means total 43 runs.

Obviously, seeing the kind of batting the young captain did in the Test series in England, hardly anyone would believe that after a few weeks his bat would stop working, but the same thing happened during the Australia tour.

Could not score half century in 9 consecutive matches

However, this story is not only about the ODI series in Australia. Actually this sequence had started with the Asia Cup held in September. Questions were being raised about Gill's selection in that tournament played in T20 format, but he was not only selected but was also made the vice-captain and played all the matches.

Except for the first match of that tournament, he could not play any big innings in the next 6 matches. If we add 3 innings of ODI series to this, then Gill has not been able to do anything special in 9 consecutive innings.

During this, he played a strong inning of 47 runs in 28 balls against Pakistan in the Super-4 round of Asia Cup, but overall in these 9 innings, he could not touch the figure of 50 even once. Till a few months ago, Gill was under question due to his red ball game, whereas in the limited overs format he was scoring runs continuously. But now suddenly the situation has changed and he is seen struggling in front of the white ball.

Gill now has another chance to return to form. 5 T20 matches are to be played between India and Australia and if Gill plays 2-3 good innings in it, then the tension of the team management and himself will be reduced.
