The Bangladesh spinners dominated the match, taking all 10 wickets as their team defeated West Indies by 179 runs in the third and final ODI on Thursday, clinching the series 2-1.
This commanding victory, the second largest overall and the biggest ever against the Caribbean side, marked Bangladesh’s first ODI series win since March 2024, after losing four consecutive encounters.
Leg-spinner Rishad Hossain finished with impressive figures of 3-54, bringing his total to 12 wickets, the highest by a Bangladesh spinner in an ODI series. West Indies were bowled out for 117 in 30.1 overs.
Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed also took 3-11, dismantling the top order, while off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz and left-armer Tanvir Islam each claimed two wickets.
Mustafizur Rahman, the sole paceman in the team, did not need to bowl.
Earlier, Bangladesh openers Saif Hassan and Soumya Sarkar provided a strong start with a partnership of 176 after captain Mehidy opted to bat first.
Sarkar scored a robust 91 off 86 balls, featuring seven fours and four sixes, while Hassan, who achieved his maiden fifty in his sixth ODI, was dismissed for 80 off 72 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes, as Bangladesh amassed 296-8.
Akeal Hosain, who led West Indies to a thrilling Super Over victory in the second game, took a career-best 4-41.
However, he was largely ineffective against Sarkar and Hassan on a pitch that offered consistent bounce, improving from the previous matches.
Najmul Hossain Shanto also contributed with 55 runs before Akeal took three wickets in a single over.
Nasum then claimed three wickets, leaving West Indies struggling at 35-3.
Obviously would have wanted to win this series, but it didn’t happen for us today. It’s been a tough series for us, especially as batters, but always things to learn from," said West Indies skipper Shai Hope.
“We are playing ODIs after a long time. If we play continuously, we will do better. I hope next year more ODIs are coming and hope the boys understand what we’re doing," said Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
The teams will next compete in a T20 series in Chattogram, starting on October 27.
