The West Indies cricket team just pulled off a brilliant, gutsy move, setting a brand-new world record in men’s ODI cricket for a full member nation. In the second match against Bangladesh at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, they made history by using nothing but spin for all 50 overs of the innings.

This wasn’t just a quirky decision; it was a smart, bold answer to the slow, turning pitch. Having lost the toss and been sent out to bowl, West Indies Captain Roston Chase made a massive tactical switch. He completely benched his fast bowlers, choosing to trust five spin specialists instead. Their only seamer, Justin Greaves, stood idle on the boundary line. A testament to the commitment to the plan.

And it worked like a dream. The five-man spin unit of Chase, Akeal Hosein, Khary Pierre, Gudakesh Motie, and part-timer Alick Athanaze perfectly applied the squeeze on the Bangladeshi batters, holding them to a very gettable score of 213 for 7.

However, the star of the show was easily the part-timer, Alick Athanaze. Though usually an occasional bowler, he was sensational, delivering an unbroken 10-over spell that cost just 14 runs while claiming two huge wickets, an incredible economy rate of 1.4. Motie also shone, snagging three wickets for the team.

This historic, all-spin attack absolutely crushed the previous men's ODI record of full-member nations of 44 overs, which had been held by Sri Lanka. The West Indies chase is now well underway (72/2 after 17.2 overs at the time of writing), giving them a strong chance to clinch the win and tie the series. It's a day the record books certainly won't forget
