Zimbabwe scored 359 runs in the first innings. Team’s opener Ben Curran scored a brilliant century. He played an important inning of 121 runs in 256 balls with the help of 15 fours.
Delhi: Zimbabwe has made a strong position in the only test match being played between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club. By the end of the second day’s play on Tuesday, Afghanistan had scored 34 runs at the loss of one wicket in their second innings.
In the second innings, Afghanistan’s opener Abdul Malik was out after scoring only 2 runs. At the end of the game, Ibrahim Zadran was unbeaten on 25 runs and Rahmanullah Gurbaz was unbeaten on 7 runs. The team is still 198 runs behind on the basis of first innings.

For Zimbabwe, Sikandar Raza scored 65 runs in 88 balls, while Nick Wallach contributed 49 runs and Brandon Taylor contributed 32 runs. Brad Evans remained unbeaten after scoring 35 runs. For Afghanistan, Ziaur Rahman took 7 wickets, Ismat Alam took 2 wickets and Sharafuddin Ashraf took 1 wicket.
Earlier, Afghanistan’s first innings was reduced to just 127 runs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 37 runs and Abdul Malik scored 30 runs. Zimbabwean bowler Brad Evans took 5 wickets, Blessing Muzarabani took 3 wickets and Tinaka Chiwanga took 1 wicket.
Ben Curran comes from a ‘cricketing’ family. His father Kevin Curran played international cricket for Zimbabwe, while his brothers Sam Curran and Tom Curran represent England. However, Ben Curran is the only player in his family who has a century in both Test and ODI formats.
There are still three days left in the match, and Zimbabwe has put complete pressure on Afghanistan. Afghanistan will have to perform brilliantly in its second innings to avoid defeat. The team still needs 198 runs to end Zimbabwe’s lead.
