Delhi: The Indian women’s team once again faced a heart-breaking defeat in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. In a very exciting match, England defeated India by a close margin of 4 runs. This is Team India’s third consecutive defeat in the tournament, due to which the path to the semi-finals has now become more difficult.
Batting first, the England team set a big target of 289 runs for India. In reply, the Indian team made a great start, but despite struggling till the end, could score only 284 runs and lost the match in the last over. Before this, India also had to face defeat against South Africa and Australia.
After the match, Indian team’s senior player Harmanpreet Kaur expressed deep disappointment over the defeat. He said that Smriti Mandhana’s wicket proved to be the biggest turning point of the match. Harmanpreet said, “Smriti’s wicket was the turning point for us. I don’t know how things turned upside down. Credit to England, they did not lose hope. It is a very bad feeling, when you have worked so hard, but the last 5-6 overs do not go according to plan, then there are no words. It is a very sad moment.”
Harmanpreet further said, “We are playing good cricket, not giving up, but we have to cross the winning line. We have done well in the last three matches. Our bowlers have done a really great job, Nat Sciver and Heather Knight were looking very impressive when they were batting. We did a lot of things right, but the last five overs were something that we need to rethink as a team.”
He said, “When Smriti and I were batting, everything was under control, but unfortunately today we could not achieve the target.”
Regarding Team India’s journey ahead, Harmanpreet said, “This was a very important match for us. As a team, we wanted to show good cricket. Even though we lost, our game was positive. Now the next match is very important for us.”
