Suryakumar Yadav feels pressure after Shubman Gill becomes captain, himself admits

Delhi: Ever since Gautam Gambhir became the new head coach of India, Suryakumar Yadav has got the captaincy of the T20 team. He has fulfilled this responsibility well. Recently he made the team win the title of Asia Cup 2025. India won this tournament without losing any match.

On the other hand, his deputy Shubman Gill has been made the captain of India’s ODI team some time ago. Earlier, he was also given the captaincy of the Test team, when Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had retired from this format.

Now Suryakumar Yadav has admitted that seeing Shubman’s continuously rising role, he was definitely afraid of losing his T20 captaincy spot. But, he also said that this fear motivates him to perform better.

Suryakumar Yadav talked about Shubman

During a conversation at an event, Suryakumar Yadav was asked whether he was afraid of losing his captaincy due to the increasing role of Shubman Gill? On this he said, “I will not lie, everyone has such a fear. But, it is the same fear that motivates you. There is a very good bonding between me and Shubman on the field and off the field. I know what kind of player and person he is. That’s why he motivates me to do better.”

The Indian T20 captain further said, “I am very happy for him that he has become the captain in two formats. He has done very well so far.”

Shubman Gill will take the field as ODI captain for the first time in the ODI series against Australia starting on 19 October 2025. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will also be part of the team in this series.

After this, Suryakumar Yadav will captain Team India in the five-match T20 series against Australia.
