SLW vs SAW Playing 11: Chamari Athapaththu-led Sri Lanka will square off against Laura Wolvaardt-led South Africa in the 18th match of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on October 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Sri Lankan women are winless so far in the ongoing tournament. Out of the four games they were scheduled, they lost to India Women and England Women, while the matches against Australia Women and New Zealand Women were abandoned due to rain.
On the other hand, South Africa has three wins out of the four games they played so far. Despite a 10-wicket defeat against England, they gave an impressive comeback, winning back to back games against, New Zealand, India and Bangladesh Women.
With South Africa comfortably secured one of the top spot, Sri Lanka is at the second bottom of the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 points table.
The Proteas Women went on to secure 16 wins out of 25 games they met Sri Lanka in ODIs while Sri Lanka has 6 wins and 3 games ended with no result.
Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat. Speaking on toss, Chamari Athapaththu said, “We decide to bat first. We had a good last game against New Zealand. We batted really good and that’s why we have decided to bat first.”
“We stick to our plans, we’ve been training hard, I hope we can play our best cricket today. Who’ll play good cricket on that particular day, that’s the most important thing,” added Chamari.
“We have good confidence because we have played really good cricket against South Africa in Sri Lanka and in South Africa as well. Now we are playing at home and we’ll stick with our plans. Same XI,” concluded Athapaththu.
Meanwhile, Laura Wolvaardt said, “Don’t mind (chasing), bit of rain around as well. It’s important to get used to the conditions. We’ll have to assess early with the ball. Probably hasn’t been our best tournament top order-wise. Three changes today. We have the offies coming in just for the left-handers.”
